The IOPRINT+ is a 3-port print server,
with 1 serial and 2 parallel ports.
Perle Part Number: 04007084
This document covers using the print
server with a UNIX host running SCO OpenServer.
Configuring the print server
There are several ways to set the initial configuration of the print
server. This method assumes you have a Windows virtual machine (or even
a computer running Windows) available for the initial setup.
Connect your new print server to your LAN.
If it is not already enabled, install NETBEUI on Windows.
Assuming r: is your CD-ROM drive, browse to
D:\ioprint\utils\biadmin\disk1 and run SETUP.
After installation: Start -> Programs -> Bi-Admin -> Bi-Admin
In Bi-Admin: InitDevice -> Connected Protocol ... select
NetBEUI
Bi-Admin should now find your print server.
Configuration -> System...: disable IPX/SPX and AppleTalk (unless
you need these things)
Configuration -> TCP/IP...: set TCP/IP parameters and click "Save to
Device" when done.
Configuration -> Logical Port... (sample configuration, your choices
may be different):
You
can configure up to eight logical ports for different print behaviors,
and here you can also set initialization and reset strings.
Set Logical Port 1 to Parallel Port 1
Set Logical Port 2 to Parallel Port 2
Set Logical Port 3 to Serial Port
In all three cases, enable "Convert LF to LF+CR"
In the "String After Job" field, add the string "0C" to send a formfeed
after the print job.
When finished, "Save to Device".
Configuring the UNIX print queue
Note that the MAC address of the print server can be inferred from its
default name: 00:c0:02:xx:xx:xx, where the string xxxxxx represents the
part of the name that comes after the initial letters "SC".
The following assumes we are configuring
the first logical printer on print server named prtsrv01 with IP address
192.168.254.200 and hardware address 00:c0:02:cc:ac:6d; this is only an example -- your
details will be different!
Add the IOPRINT+ to /etc/hosts:
102.168.254.200 prtsrv01 # Perle
IOPRINT+ SCCCAC6D
Associate the MAC and IP addresses:
arp -s prtsrv01 00:c0:02:cc:ac:6d
Enable remote UNIX print services on the OpenServer host.
Add a remote printer:
Host: prtsrv01
Remote printer name: L1
(Disable extended remote printing
protocol.)
Notes
You can telnet to the print server to check the status of the printers.
The only useful command is "monitor".
